A Tree Grown with Love

I love making any type of craft that uses the boys hand/foot prints. I know that some time in the near future I'm going to look back on them and remember just how little they were!

I bought a cheap canvas from the discount shop and traced Master 3's arm/hand that will represent the tree.

Make sure you spread out their little fingers to make the branches stretch out.

Master 3 then painted the inside of his arm brown to represent the trunk.

Choose four different colours to paint  the hand before applying it directly to the canvas. Get your little one to stretch out their little fingers as much as possible so they look like branches.

I got each of the boy's to do two hand prints each for the tree. Here is the finished product, a tree grown with lots of love.

Father's Day Card

Every year I like my children to make a hand-made Father's Day card with love. This year was lots of fun as Master 5 was full of suggestions and able to complete the majority of the card on his own which he is very proud of, and I know Daddy will be too!

I started by giving Master 5 a blank piece of paper with a frame drawn in the middle where the photo/hand drawn picture will go. Confidently able to spell DAD Master 5 set off on a scavenger hunt through my old magazines to find the letters to make DAD. He then placed the letters around the frame with a little glue.

I had initially suggested printing off a photo of Master 5 and his Daddy to put in the frame, but Master 5 was adamant he wanted to draw him and his Dad going to the park together. If your child is not yet drawing you could place a picture here, trace/paint their hand print/get them to finger paint/paint on another sheet of paper then cut it to size.

If your child is able to write their own message on the back it is always really special. If not you can write it for them, or perhaps even find a nice poem to print out and past on the back. Make sure you put the year on the card!

Father's Day

Why I Love My Daddy - Illustrated by Daniel Howarth is my favourite book to use with little ones leading up to Father's Day. Every one's daddy is the best. And who better to tell the world than children themselves? This charming book combines endearing things said by children about their fathers with gentle illustrations of familiar animals. The text is amusing and insightful, with reasons why daddies are loved by their children ranging from 'because he tickles me' to 'because he is my best friend'.

Father's Day celebration in Australia takes place in the same way as in several other countries around the world. Taking opportunity of the occasion to express gratitude for their dad and thank them for all their care and support. The greatest gift is one made with LOVE. All children take great pride in gifting a hand-made gift, to honour their dad. This year we are making our dad a puzzle that has been hand-painted with love. I bought blank puzzle templates from the discount shop and outlined the word DAD on it for the boys to paint. We then decorated a box and broke the puzzle into pieces for Daddy to put together on father's day! Then to finish our present off the boys hand printed paper to use as wrapping paper. So cute and made with SO much love x
